The Grindery helps people sharpen dreams.
Winner of the 2015 Nuvo Cultural Vision Award for Social Justice, the Grindery was born out of the need to help people create business enterprise to improve their life chances and life possibilities. The Grindery is intentional about surrounding potential entrepreneurs with excellent resources and relationships to bring vision to reality.
Students in our courses are challenged to first discover their individual purpose in life, before they are challenged to master coursework individually tailored to create a strong plan for the establishment of their businesses.
Our curriculum was designed and tested in a fall 2012 pilot program before launch with Marian University Byrum School of Business. The NorthWest Vision Development Center, a non-profit consulting organization that established The Grindery, has partner with many organizations in Core NorthWest Indianapolis, including Christian Theological Seminary, The Efroymson Diversity Center of Butler University, and the Flanner House of Indianapolis. National partnerships include State Farm and Wells Fargo, who established the UrbanLIFT community grant program.
Upon completion of their business plan, Grinders, those “grinding out a plan for the rest of their lives”, are provided a mentor and other applicable leads toward resourcing and fortifying sustainable businesses. The Grindery has been successful in leading entrepreneurs in the execution of their plans to establish vetted business ideas. Partnerships with CloudOne, The Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce and Business Opportunity Initiative (BOI), and the Small Business Administration (SBA.GOV), allow The Grindery to position Grinders for micro loans and to friends of the organization who continue to invest in new businesses, for both financial and social considerations. The Grindery is a platform for success and the right place to meet and receive support from venture capitalists, angel investors, venture philanthropists, and other instructors concerned about your excellence!
Since 2012, the Northest Vision Development Center has provided atmosphere, space and resources to both start and propel new businesses. We welcome you enjoy and learn from the amazing team of business mentors that teach carefully designed workshops to help you get your business off to an excellent start. – Dr. Ivan Douglas Hicks, Founding Managing Director
